This dresser fits my favorite link party to a T this week! I originally purchased this dresser at my fave thrift store last week with the intention of using it in my bedroom. I was going to stain the top and paint the bottom. Here is was before
I took it outside yesterday to sand and first off, let me tell you I almost didn't survive. I was so cold and didn't realize until I came inside that my sanding mask was filled with snot! Eww, GA-ROSS! I never felt a single drip while I was out there. Moving on....
I spent the time to strip the top and somehow never noticed the 2 obvious cigarette burns on the top :-( I thought about trying to stain it and just pretend that they were knots in the wood but Scott nixed that.
Moving on...again!
I was wanting a dresser of similar style to use as a tv stand/toy storage in the kids room. I have these cute pillows from Pier 1 that I was using as inspiration for colors in the room
I happened to have a teal on hand so I was super excited to get started. This was also my first chance to use the new Kilz Clean Start zero VOC and I like it! It dried quickly and since my paint was a dark color, I only needed one coat. If I were going light I would definitely recommend 2 coats.
So here is how the dresser turned out after a little distressing and antiquing
And this is why its still a piece of work. I have the hardware (teardrop pulls are from HL and the others are the orignals) but I'm really not sure on a color!
So, if you would be kind enough to leave a color suggestion, you are AWESOME!
i think i would go with oil rubbed bronze- definitely something warm and dark. the dresser looks great though and is perfect with those pillows!
ReplyDeleteThis color is beautiful!!! I love replacing old hardware it can make such a difference to the beauty of your piece......the pillows have a vintage look so maybe silver hardware might work..I am sure what ever you pick it will be great!!
ReplyDeleteThe color is fantastic! Would you mind sharing the line and name? :) As for the hardware, I think red knobs would offer another pretty pop of color. I also like the suggestion of oil-rubbed bronze, though. Tough call!
ReplyDeleteLove it...great color! I like Cassie's idea of ORB or Erin's of red. I think they would both be great. The red would tie in the pillow even more.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Emily! But you are a brave girl to be outside sanding in these temperatures! Not to mention the wind! Brrr!!! Dark hardware!
ReplyDeleteso i dont think im brave enough to go red so orb it is! thanks ladies = )
ReplyDeleteerin-this was a mistint from valspar so i have no idea :-(
This turned out fantastic. The color is beautiful! I think ORB is the way to go too!
ReplyDeleteThat color is so rich! You did a fab job!
ReplyDeleteSo what color/brand is this teal? i adore it! I like the hardware the brassy color it is (is that weird?)...but i also love my girl cassie's suggestion of ORB! looks amazing! xx rayan - the design confidential (aka the frugal designer)
ReplyDeleteI love this color!! It turned out sooo good! That pillow is extra cute too! I nominated you for the Stylish Blogger Award!!

I am a new follower from Craptastic. I like the dresser. Thankfully I live in Texas, so really cold weather is not a problem. Good luck.
